Exhibition | Two Lemon Pips

The two lemon pips after which the exhibition is named constitute one of the smallest and most endearing entries in a 366-item inventory collected by Irmak Canevi through his choosing one item every day throughout the year 2020. Hosting a couple of living things ready to come into existence at any moment, these pips are also charged with representing the construct dispersed all around the space; they occupy a special place in the scheme of things.

Greeting its audience in a spirit of hope and anticipation, the exhibition has been designed around three different foci selected by the artist: (i) a structure made of packaging foam that holds one year’s entire hoard (ii) posters with photographs of the collection on the front and accounts of where the items came from, how and why they were chosen on the back, and (iii) collages the artist produced by playing around with images of the things he had collected.

Having assembled a range of wildly differing forms through the practice of his craft, this exhibition sees Irmak initiating fresh quests through the components he has collected, of every size and color; here at Ka Atölye he gives room to fresh forms and platforms inspired by a variety of eye-catching materials.

Two Lemon Pips is the artist’s first exhibition in Ankara, the beloved city of his birth and upbringing.
